FAQs

1.   What do I need to send in order to have my records evaluated?

·        Completed Application Form

·        Original transcripts/marksheets – Records showing the subjects you studied, the grades you earned, and credits, if available.  These records must be in your native language and in English, unless your school issues official documents in English.  Be sure to read all documentation requirements and exceptions.

·        Diploma/Degree Certificate – in your native language and English, unless officially issued by your school in English

·        Payment – Personal check drawn on a U.S. bank, money order in U.S. dollars, or Visa or MasterCard account number with expiration date and exact name on card

2.   How long does it take to have an evaluation prepared?

It usually takes 10-12 business days.  We also offer a 1-2 day service or a 3-5 day service for additional fees (see Services and Fees).  If IACE requires additional information or research time, we reserve the right to extend evaluation time.  Contact IACE for evaluation status information.

3.   How many originals of the evaluation will I receive when I request an evaluation?

You will receive two originals at the time of the original evaluation.  On our Application Form, you can check how many additional originals you would like.  You may also request additional originals at a later time (see Services and Fees).  When requesting additional copies, include the complete mailing address of where you would like the copies to be sent.

4.   How can I send my credentials by courier?

Go to the U.S. Postal Service and use their Certified Mail or Express Mail Service.
Only the U.S. Postal Service will deliver to a P.O. Box.
For clients outside the U.S.:  Contact IACE for a physical address for the courier.

5.   What kinds of evaluations are prepared?

·   General Evaluation – Statement of equivalency in relation to U.S. educational system (for example, a U.S. high school diploma, a U.S. Bachelor’s degree, Vocational Training in a specific area, U.S. Master’s degree).  Two (2) original evaluation reports are provided.

·   Detailed Evaluation – Statement of equivalency relative to the U.S. educational system as well as course-by-course listing of subjects with grades (adjusted for U.S. grading scales) and corresponding U.S. credit hours earned at the university level.  Two (2) original evaluation reports are provided.

·   Preliminary Evaluation – Unofficial general equivalency review of credentials.  Results will be emailed to the client.

6.   What do I do if I need to add credentials to my evaluation at a later time?

Send us a copy of the original evaluation, a letter explaining what you wish to add (along with the original credentials to be added), and payment (see Services and Fees).  Please be sure to include transcripts/marksheets and diplomas/degree certificates.  Be sure to read all documentation requirements and exceptions.

7.   What do I send if my credentials are under another name?

Send legal verification of all name changes.  This may be in the form of a photocopy of a marriage license, passport identification page, or legal notice in a newspaper.  Court documents are also recommended.

8.   Can I get my high school credential on one evaluation and my university credential in a separate evaluation?

All credentials are included in one evaluation.  We must report on your entire educational history in one report.  In preparing the report, IACE is stating that the information included is complete and correct.

9.   Does IACE translate records?

IACE is not a translation service.  You must provide an English translation of all documents submitted in a foreign language.  You may prepare the English translation yourself.

10. How long will IACE keep my documents and my evaluation?

Documents and evaluations submitted to IACE are kept for 5 years.  After that time, a new evaluation must be prepared.

Note:  Always keep a copy of the original evaluation report.  If after 5 years you find that you need an additional original, you will need to re-apply for an evaluation and submit your credentials, Application Form, and fees again.

Note:  If you applied for an evaluation but did not receive it due to incomplete client records or pending verification of records, your file will remain active for a period of one (1) year.  After one (1) year, your file will become inactive.  To re-activate your file, you must submit a new application and pay the appropriate fees.

11. How do I get additional copies of the evaluation at a later date?  Is there a fee?

You must write, fax or email to IACE and request additional originals.  Tell us when your original evaluation was completed and send us a copy of the evaluation, if you have one.  Each additional original copy is $10, so please include a personal check, money order, or credit card information.

Note:  Always keep a copy of the original evaluation report.  If after 5 years you find that you need an additional original, you will need to re-apply for an evaluation and submit your credentials, Application Form, and fees again.

12. Do I send my original records to you or are photocopies acceptable?

Original educational credentials are needed to complete the evaluation.  The only exception is for the country of India.  Photocopies of the original documents from India are acceptable.  Original educational documents are returned to the client via U.S. Postal Service Certified Mail.

13. What do I do if I can’t get a copy of my transcripts and diplomas?

IACE does not assume the responsibility for obtaining records.  In order to have an evaluation prepared, you must have your complete records including transcripts/marksheets and diploma/degree certificates.  If you do not have your records, we recommend that you contact your schools directly or, if your school no longer exists, your Ministry of Education.  The Embassy of your country in the U.S. may be able to help.

14. Why do I need to send my transcript if I am just requesting a General Evaluation?

IACE must have complete records in order to prepare an evaluation.  Transcripts help us verify the authenticity of diplomas.

15. What kind of evaluation do I need to apply for Teacher Certification?

You will need the Detailed Evaluation.  Some school districts also require the grade point average (GPA) so you may need to request that this be included in your evaluation.  There is a place on the Application Form for you to indicate that you also need the GPA included.  The cost is an additional $20 in addition to the evaluation fee.  Check with the school district to which you are applying to determine how many originals they will need and if they require the GPA.  Each additional original evaluation, after the two provided with the initial evaluation, will cost $10.
